Helpful tips for new Purrfect Privy owners

Do not hesitate to call us at 1-800-434-1919
if you need help with your particular situation.

Cats that have been using an ordinary litter pan, or perhaps a covered pan may need an adjustment period when first using the Purr-fect Privy®.

After assembly is complete, place the unit in the location you will use. Allow your cat to investigate the new addition.

It is important that you never force your cat into the unit at any time!!! Natural curiosity is all that is necessary.

Place your litter pan in the base area and do not install the 2 front doors (upper & lower) immediately. At this point the cat will simply go in and out the open front. Allow the cat to use the litter pan in this manner until you are sure they have adapted so far. This could take 1 or 2 days, especially if you have multiple cats.

After the cat is using the litter normally, you should install the lower door. The cat will enter through the side or front at this time.

Wait until you have had time to scoop the pan a few times before installing the upper acrylic door.

I
t is extremely important that you do not have your old litter pan next to the Purr-Fect Privy®. The cat may just use the old method simply from habit and not need to adapt to anything new. If you wish to keep your old litter pan for a while, place it elsewhere in the home.

You will benefit greatly by taking the time to help the cat adjust smoothly to this new system. Your patience will be rewarded with a home free of unsightly litter.

A WORD TO
THE WISE!!!

Wood cabinets
with litter pans...

If you use a litter pan less than 10" high inside a pine or any wood-based cabinet, it's lifespan is limited. You can paint or varathane the interior, but eventually the smell of urine will penetrate and cannot be removed.

Other Suggestions:

  1. Store your litter scoop right next to the pan within the cabinet
  2. Some cats throw litter over the edge of the pan or spray urine up high. In this case, we suggest you purchase a "Sterilite Jumbo box" to use as a litter pan. The 58 or 66 quart sizes all fit and do a great job. Many stores, including Wal-Mart and Target sell this plastic container in the housewares department. We use it ourselves and find it a great labor saver.
  3. Do not allow urine to stand on the surfaces of the Oak Melamine model. It can eventually damage some of the parts. Use the extra tall Sterlite container or something similar to solve the problem completely. The Acrylic/Plastic models are impervious to moisture.
  4. If your cat has difficulty getting out of the pan onto the upper grid, you can raise the litter pan level by placing something sturdy under it (2x4's, phone books) Make it as easy as you can for your cat.
